BIOGRAPHY:
Born in New York, Gissel Gomez is a Mexican-American artist and writer. Raised in immigrant and working-class communities, she has long been interested in how labor shapes the handling and maintenance of the body. Inspired by surrealism and absurdism, she plays with charcoal to depict the textures, contours, and movements of life forms and their landscapes. Her artwork has been nationally and internationally recognized in publications.
Gissel is a first-generation Williams College student, pursuing a double major in English and Studio Art. She was selected as a Mellon Mays Fellow in her sophomore year and is currently a visiting student at Oxford University.
